Four players can fight against an enemy known as the Shadowlord, or you can play as the Shadowlord. Set in a modern fantasy world, Shadow Realms is an "online-only" RPG that will offer cooperative 4v1 gameplay, BioWare Austin general manager Jeff Hickman said during the briefing. This is the game BioWare has been teasing for the past two weeks. Today in Germany during EA's Gamescom briefing, the publisher's BioWare Austin studio announced Shadow Realms, a multiplayer-focused online game, launching in 2015 for PC. In reality, while someone's sexual or gender identity certainly isn't the only aspect of someone's character, it's still a part of them, and "this character is gay/bi/trans BUT we shall never speak of it" isn't really the greatest thing.Īs a gay person I like to see both variations, and know many other LGBT+ folks do as well characters who's identities are announced and maybe even spoken of a lot, and characters who don't really mention it at all, as it mirrors real life.By clicking 'enter', you agree to GameSpot's 23 Games from E3 2015 with Badass Female Characters: įrom what I've seen, for many people "A character should be more than just gay" often translates to "it shouldn't be mentioned at all, ever", and a character doing as little as mentioning their identity will immediately get slammed with claims of pandering. Don't just downvote me dude, if you have evidence that links Sam Maggs to a deep Bioware conspiracy to post positive articles on The Mary fucking Sue (total mainstream website) please do share, I hate unethical journalism as much as anyone. It's okay to disagree with someone politically, but don't lie about them man - people believe any old shit you write on the internet :( I don't know Sam, but I do work in the gaming industry and whilst I understand your frustrations, I hate it when people spread rumours and misinformation about these people, who are almost always women.
She's not creating playable characters or scripting big dramatic scenes from scratch or anything.Īnyway, I don't really know where I'm going with this. She's not going to be deciding important parts of the franchise, she's probably stuck writing barks (when characters yell stuff in games) and codex entries and stuff like that. Then there's also the factor that as an assistant writer, her position is very junior. Then she got lucky and got a junior writer's job at a company she likes. Up until March 2016 she was paying the bills by writing about games from her viewpoint - as a gamer who is a feminist. She is a fan of Bioware - can't fault her for that, I also very much enjoyed Mass Effect and Dragon Age (though I thought the combat was a but rubbish in both). Sam Maggs is a games writer, and a feminist. And it's kinda harmful to the woman - this is how rumours spread, and now the 60 or so people who upvoted you believe that Sam Maggs practices "dishonest journalism".
I get it - you care about games, you like the way they are, you feel that some women are "politicising" games necessarily - but what you are saying is just not true. Now, I'm not defending her GTA video by any stretch of the imagination, but like a lot of guys I see posting on Reddit you seem to be drawing strange conclusions based on spurious or non-existent evidence. In fact, I have to go all the way back to June 21st 2015 to find an article from her that mentions Bioware: 23 Games from E3 2015 with Badass Female Characters, and even this article is arguably "promoting Bioware" as much as it is aknowledging that their E3 2015 trailer for Mass Effect Andromeda features a "badass female character". There are no articles on the Mary Sue written by Sam Maggs promoting Bioware since March 2016, when she was first employed by Bioware.
Sam Maggs was first employed by Bioware as an assistant writer (a junior writing position) in March 2016.
